Workshops and Trainings

At this point in the development of a new school, training and workshop choices should differentiated to meet the needs of school developers. Training on specific curriculum, instructional practices, or other program elements should take priority. Additional training should be based on feedback received from consultants. The annual calendar of workshops and trainings do not always coincide exactly with the needs of the school. School developers should review the list of training events provided in "Preliminary Exploration" and in "Step 1" of the Flowchart, to fill any gaps and possibly attend certain events a second time. It is common for new school developers to report that trainings and workshops are quite overwhelming in the early stages of the process. There is an extremely large amount of information that must scaffold for a complete understanding. Multiple exposures on a broad range of charter school related topics will help new school developers increase the rate at which they can learn the terminology, absorb the information, and apply the best practices.
